So glad you wrote this. It serves as a great reminder to cherish my girl while she is home and also to reach out to others I know who have an empty nest. Great writing, great essay ❤️

I love that it helps you cherish time with your girl, that was definitely one of my motivations for writing it. And thank you for your kind words. ❤️

Thank you for expressing what every parent goes through when kids approach adulthood and start their own lives. It’s mostly painful but a necessary process. They need to grow and find their own path to live. Wonderful writing!

This is an excellent writing and a major step for us as parents. The transition is difficult but the rewards are wonderful! To see our children thriving in the world is the best feeling.

One daughter at home one at uni, but even with the one at home she is spreading her wings and doesn't need me in the ways she did, so it often feels like an empty nest. The first term at uni was a shock for me, I had put so much into making sure she was prepared and worrying about her settling and being happy that I actually hadn't thought about what it would be like without her here. It was a shift in dynamics and most definitely a learning to not text constantly. It is better now, she's starting a master's degree now and our house settles faster into her being away.

It’s such an intense and rapid adjustment. You’re right, we tend to focus so much on our kids and what they will need that we gloss over ourselves, until we come home to an empty house and realize we have to learn how to live again. Thanks for sharing your experience.
